yeah i know this is my Thrid post today, who cares?!
last month in April, i went to spend a week with my cusins in Steamboat Springs Colorado. we stayed in a nice room and had alot of fun. the facility that i stayed at had a swiming pool and a hot tub. Now, in my family, most of the talk is political or mostly educational. we were discussing with my Aunt and Uncle about somthing... i cant really remember, but it was about Government or somthing like that. anyways, a lady sat down in the hot tub with a baby on her lap. the baby was African American and the mother was American. i could tell she was listening and i was always making points whenever i could. i had a Saygobedo to talk to the lady.
i had always been rather good at talking to new people i think, but i didnt listen for several minutes. (Bad Tenaya) i decided to talk to her about the baby girl in her lap.
"your baby is very cute, did you adopt her?" i asked. the lady laughed and said;
"no, her Father is from Africa."
i introduced myself and told her my name. her name was Heather.
"so, what grade are you in Tenaya?" Heather asked, the baby gigling in her lap as she splashed at the warm water. (it was so cold it was almost snowing, so the hot tub's water was actually cool enough for the baby)
"i actually dont know, really, i'm home schooled so i never keep track of it." i said, knowing the conversation was heading to somewhere good, since i had had ones like this many times before.
"oh really? that's amazing! so what do you study?" Heather asked.
"lots of things. i study history, i'm learning about WW I &II, i just finished learning about the Civil War and the Revolution. and i study Shakespeare, in fact, my school is about to perform 'A Comedy of Errors' and last year we did 'As you Like It'." by now, the conversation about Government had taipered down to just my Dad and Uncle talking while my Mom and my Aunt listened to my conversation. we continued talking about homeschool and Heather confessed she was afraid to send her daughter to public school when the child was old enough, especially since the environment was so terrible, the drugs and the occassional, but dreaded, shootings, the morality isues and many other things. i told her many of my expiriances of public School such as getting beat up by a bully quite often, the teachers were always harsh about me not doing well at reading which led me to hate reading until well after i was out of public school and so on. she then said how she could never find a schooling program that she felt was right for her child and i told her about TJED and my Religion and how much homeschooling helped me understand and love God and my religion Much, Much more. she got excited and my mom gave her our phone number and such.
Heather later called asking for more info on my schooling and if TJED had a website.
the main point of this Saygobedo, was i introduced Heather to a new type of homeschooling and might very well have changed HER life and her CHILD'S life, not to mention future children. had i not had the courage to talk to a total stranger, i never would have met and had the privilege to know this woman and her baby, and i think i would have always regretted that.
